Description

Château de Champagnat is a peaceful, partially accessible holiday property set in the rolling countryside just outside Vichy, central France. Offering exclusive use of two charming gîtes, this unique holiday property sleeps up to ten guests and is ideal for multigenerational families, groups of friends, or those looking for a calm, restorative space with accessibility features. With 2.5 hectares of private parkland, a swimming pool, and a bookable hot tub, the estate provides a rare mix of historic charm and modern comfort in a tranquil rural setting.

The main property, La Lodge, is a spacious four-bedroom home located within the courtyard of the château. Inside, guests will find a bright and comfortable lounge and dining area, along with a fully equipped kitchen thoughtfully designed to support a range of access needs. The kitchen includes a food preparation and wash-up area with space beneath the counters for wheelchair users. One of the double bedrooms is located on the ground floor and has step-free access via a private ramped entrance. Adjacent to this room is a modern wetroom featuring a level-access shower, handrails, and a transfer space beside the toilet, offering practical support for guests with reduced mobility. A static height-adjustable shower chair is available on request. While the access ramp rises 50cm over 2.5 metres, it remains suitable for many private guests. The turning circle in the wet room measures approximately 148cm, with minor encroachments from the sink and door handle. Upstairs, three further bedrooms, two doubles and one twin, are tucked beneath the original beams, alongside a second bathroom.

The property welcomes fully trained and registered assistance dogs. The jacuzzi is accessible only to those who are able to climb the steps and get in and out independently. The swimming pool may be manageable for some mobility-reduced guests, as it features wide in-ground steps, though it does not have a hoist or rail system.

The second property, Le Pigeonnier, is a charming one-bedroom retreat for two adults only, set just across the park from La Lodge. Converted from the estate’s original dovecote, the property features a private stone staircase leading to a beautifully compact living space arranged over two floors. Downstairs includes a kitchenette with a combi microwave and oven, hob, fridge, dishwasher, and Tassimo coffee machine, as well as a comfortable seating area and smart TV. Upstairs, the en-suite bedroom has a 160cm double bed and views across the surrounding countryside. Guests also enjoy exclusive use of a rooftop patio and a small, enclosed terrace ideal for quiet mornings or evening drinks. Due to its spiral staircase and uneven outdoor access, Le Pigeonnier is not suitable for guests with reduced mobility, nor for children, babies, or animals.

The parkland that surrounds the château is yours to enjoy during your stay. With sweeping lawns, mature trees, and quiet corners for reading or picnicking, the space invites slow mornings and relaxed afternoons. From June to September, the outdoor swimming pool is open daily, and all year round, guests can reserve private time slots in the hot tub located in a nearby outbuilding. Both properties have WiFi, and a welcome pack is provided on arrival with essentials and a few thoughtful touches to help you settle in.

Located just 5km from Vichy, the estate is perfectly positioned for guests who want a taste of history and French charm. The town’s Belle Époque architecture, river walks, markets, and thermal baths are all within easy reach by car. For guests with neurodiverse needs or sensory sensitivities, the peaceful rural setting and option for private use of both homes ensure a calm and predictable environment.

Although not certified as fully accessible by French tourism authorities, La Lodge is currently undergoing assessment for visual accessibility. The owners are happy to answer specific questions in advance to help you plan your stay with confidence. Electric vehicle charging is not available onsite, but a list of nearby public charging stations is provided.

Château de Champagnat is available to rent as a whole for groups of up to ten people, ensuring your privacy and uninterrupted enjoyment of the grounds and amenities. With a blend of historic architecture, inclusive features, and space for connection or quiet retreat, this unique holiday home offers something truly special for guests seeking accessible holidays in France.

Price from €480 per night plus tourist tax* (€2 per adult per night in the Lodge and €1.50 per adult per night in the Pigeonnier).

A €100 cleaning fee and a €500 refundable security deposit are required.
