PIWS

What is PIWS?

PIWS is a Community Interest Company (CIC) based in Wales, dedicated to enhancing accessibility for people with disabilities. Established in 2018 on the Isle of Anglesey, PIWS emerged from a parent-led initiative to create inclusive spaces for individuals with autism, sensory impairments, mobility challenges, learning difficulties, and brain illnesses. PIWS works in both local communities and tourism settings to ensure that people with diverse needs can find accessible and welcoming destinations.

How Do They Help?

PIWS is an essential resource for individuals and families searching for accessible destinations throughout Wales. Their comprehensive directory covers a range of needs, highlighting accessible places for leisure, historical sites, dining, shopping, and accommodation, all designed to be inclusive for visitors with varying disabilities. Beyond just listing accessible spots, PIWS actively collaborates with councils, businesses, and community groups to encourage inclusive practices, support accessibility training, and ensure adherence to the standards of the Equality Act. Their approach centers on feedback from families and carers, ensuring that their solutions are both practical and empathetic.

To further assist businesses and organizations in becoming more inclusive, PIWS offers specialized accessibility training, including an introductory one-hour workshop that provides teams with essential insights into assessing and improving accessibility. Additionally, their four-day “Accessibility Champion” course trains participants in the tourism sector—spanning hospitality, retail, leisure, and events—to become “Accessibility Leaders.” This course equips them with the skills to mentor their teams on accessibility, empowering them to make informed and inclusive choices within their organizations.
