Château de Champagnat is a peaceful countryside retreat located just outside Vichy in central France. Set within 2.5 hectares of private parkland, it offers exclusive use of two charming gîtes and sleeps up to ten guests. It is well suited to multigenerational families, groups of friends, or anyone seeking a restorative holiday with thoughtful accessibility features. With a swimming pool, quiet walking space, and a bookable hot tub, the estate blends historic character with modern comfort in a calm rural setting. The main gîte, La Lodge, sits within the courtyard of the château. Inside, it offers four bedrooms and a relaxed, homely feel. The lounge and dining area are bright and comfortable, and the kitchen is fully equipped with accessible design in mind, including a food preparation and wash-up area with open space beneath the counters. One of the double bedrooms is on the ground floor and has step free access through a private ramped entrance. Next to this room is a modern wet room with a level access shower, handrails, and a transfer space beside the toilet. A height adjustable static shower chair is available on request. The ramp rises 50 cm over 2.5 metres and is suitable for many private guests. The wet room’s turning circle measures about 148 cm, with small encroachments from the door handle and sink. Upstairs, three additional bedrooms, two doubles and one twin, sit beneath the original beams along with a family bathroom. Assistance dogs that are fully trained and officially registered are welcome. The hot tub can only be used by guests who can manage steps independently. The swimming pool includes wide in-ground steps, which some mobility reduced guests may find manageable, although it does not include rails or a hoist. Across the parkland is the second gîte, Le Pigeonnier. This one bedroom property is designed for two adults and offers a cosy, private escape. Converted from the estate’s historic dovecote, it includes a small living room, a kitchenette with a combi microwave oven, hob, fridge, dishwasher, and Tassimo coffee machine, and a comfortable en-suite bedroom with a 160 cm bed. The rooftop patio and enclosed terrace are perfect for quiet mornings or evening drinks. Due to its stone staircase, spiral interior steps, and uneven outdoor access, Le Pigeonnier is not suitable for guests with reduced mobility, nor for children, babies, or animals. Guests are welcome to explore the estate grounds at their leisure. With open lawns, shaded corners, and peaceful views, the parkland offers plenty of space to unwind. The outdoor swimming pool is open daily from June to September, and the hot tub can be booked throughout the year. Both gîtes have WiFi, and a welcome pack is provided on arrival with essentials and a few thoughtful touches. The estate is located 5 km from Vichy. The town is known for its Belle Époque buildings, thermal baths, markets, and riverside promenades. For neurodiverse guests or visitors who prefer a calmer environment, the quiet rural setting and option to book both gîtes privately offer a predictable and soothing backdrop. Although La Lodge is not yet officially certified as fully accessible by French tourism authorities, it is undergoing assessment for visual accessibility. The owners are happy to discuss individual needs before arrival. Electric vehicle charging is not available onsite, but a list of nearby public charging points is provided. Château de Champagnat can be booked as a whole for groups of up to ten people, giving you full privacy and uninterrupted access to the grounds and facilities. With a combination of heritage, comfort, and inclusivity, it is an ideal base for guests looking for accessible holidays in France. Prices start from €480 per night plus tourist tax. The rate is €2 per adult per night in La Lodge and €1.50 per adult per night in Le Pigeonnier. A €100 cleaning fee and a €500 refundable security deposit apply.
